And I’ve been thinking about broken promises.

When it comes to promises, the broken ones are easy to come by.
Whether it came from a significant other or a longtime friend, the politician you voted for or the parent you adore — if you have lived any life at all you have been let down by an unkept promise.
(I was thinking of saying that broken promises are as American as apple pie but then I read that promises are like pie crust — made to be broken. Which is probably better but even more discouraging)
And yet, even though we’ve been let down more times than we’ve ever had pie, we can’t throw stones.
