As a worship leader one of the most important things I believe I’m called to do is remind our church of who God is and who we are in Him. Sure, there are times when I might feel as if I’m just repeating myself week after week, but that’s ok. More often than not it’s the basic truths about who God is – told in a simple way – that we all need to hear.
At the end of Deuteronomy 6, Moses gives an example of how to teach a basic truth. He tells parents to talk to their children about what God did in Egypt, how He showed His great might in rescuing them from slavery, and how it was for the good of those who would follow.
Then in verse 23, Moses tells them to teach what God had done: “He brought us out from there, that He might bring us in and give us the land that He swore to give to our fathers.”
Did you catch that basic truth?
He brought us out that He might bring us in.
Can it get more simple than that?
We were in the land of Egypt and now we are in the land of promise.
We were there and now we are here.
We were slaves but now we are free.
We were blind but now we see.
We were lost but now we are found.
We were sick but now we are healed.
We were orphans but now we are family.
We were dead but now we are alive.
He did this.
He brought us out of ________ so that he might bring us into …
Every one of us has an opportunity to fill in those blanks.
For some of us, these words are proclamations of good news we’ve never heard before. For others of us they are reminders of our salvation that we need to hear again. Either way, these simple yet powerful truths about Jesus can lead us to living profoundly different lives than we were living before.
The people of Israel didn’t just change a zip code — they inherited a brand new existence. Yet the change can be summed up in a simple phrase: He brought them out that He might bring them in.
Maybe for you the story of Jesus, that He can bring you out from darkness and bring you into the light, is a brand new revelation. Maybe for you it’s a much needed reminder.
Maybe you need the encouragement. Maybe you need the salvation found in those words. Maybe you need to fill in the blanks before you can continue your day.
He brought me out of _________ so that He might bring me into …
Be reminded of the hope found in Jesus and receive the truth of what God has done for you!
